Three Teens on Facebook “Kill List” Murdered (social, network, twitter, Auckland, news, report)

In the past ten days, three teens have been murdered in Puerto Asis, a southwestern Colombian town. All three teens appeared on a Facebook “kill list,” that consisted of 66 other names.
According to Mashable, Colombian police are investigating the Facebook “kill list,” but they are not sure who posted it, or why the names were chosen.
Two of the murders occurred on August 15th, two days before the Facebook “kill list” was posted. When the list did go up, it warned the other people on the list that they had three days to leave the city of Puerto Asis. The list was thought to be a joke by authorities, but on August 20th, another person was killed, and another person was wounded during an attack.
Police are offering a reward of 5 million pesos ($2,750) for any information about the origins of the “kill list.”
According to the New York Daily News, there are two major gangs that are active in the area; the Los Rastrojos as well as the militant group Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.

Nokia goes for 'Touch and Type' with the X3 (Smartphone, tech, news, report, Auckland, "Nokia Repair"

21 August, 2010, Auckland--CONSUMER electronics companies are busy racing forward, embracing new technology and trying to develop gadgets with the latest and greatest features, but recently a couple of mobile phone makers have changed their tactics, introducing high-tech phones with, what many might consider, outdated features.

In a world where everyone is fighting to invent the next iPhone killer, companies such as Nokia and RIM have decided to "make the familiar new," opting to transform the older-styled 12-button keypad into a desirable smartphone feature.

Nokia announced it would introduce its first "Touch and Type" device while hinting at a new category of phones that embrace both the future and the past.

Nokia's first Touch and Type device, the X3, bridges the gap between smartphone and feature phone, combining smartphone features such as a touchscreen, and 3G and WiFi connectivity with "the most used mobile interface on the planet."
The device gently eases users who feel comfortable using the traditional mobile phone keypad into the world of smartphones.

"Our research tells us consumers who have invested years in becoming fast one-handed, one-thumb texters want to maintain their speedy edge for SMS, chat and instant messaging - yet enjoy the benefits of touch as well," said Mary McDowell, executive vice-president of mobile phones at Nokia.

It is a strategy that RIM also employed with their recently released Pearl 9100 3G handset.
Nokia's diminutive X3 phone comes with a 5-megapixel, 4x digital zoom camera for both video and stills, dedicated music and messaging keys, access to Nokia's Ovi Store, 3G and WiFi connectivity, e-mail, social networking, FM radio, and Bluetooth2.1.

Having Trouble Getting Laid? Buy This Phone! (strange, tech, news, report, Auckland)

http://tiny.cc/iphonesex
Researching and trying to make a decision on what new phone to buy can be an exhausting task. How good is the network it’s offered on? What options for apps are there? How long is the battery life? Will it get me laid? Wait what? Let’s face it, a phone is as much a status symbol as the car your drive. The same sub conscious sexual reason we may buy a nice car can be equated to the same reason we may buy a phone we don’t really need. But

I’m not here to knock our sub conscious sexual reasons that drive most of our existence. Especially us dudes, the opposite sex is the reason behind pretty much every decision we make. With that said the heads at wired.com threw up this graph illustrating the findings of OKcupid.com’s study as to which phone is more likely to score guys and gals a good ol fashion crush fest. By age 30 Iphone users took the cake with an average of 12 sexual partners while Droid users were left holding more than their phone with an average of only 6 partners. Best Quote from wired.com blog writer: “Finally, statistical proof that iPhone users aren’t just getting fucked by Apple.” ZipLeaf Technology blogs Technology blogs Ströget köpenhamn

wedish Motorist Facing World’s Biggest Speeding Fine Of $1Million (record, road, car, Auckland)

A Swedish man has been handed what is believed to be the world’s largest speeding fine, which is expected to cost him £650,000.
 http://tiny.cc/speeding

The 37-year-old man was driving at two and a half times the speed limit in his £140,000 Mercedes when he was pulled over by traffic police in Switzerland. And police said he was travelling so fast it took him some distance to stop.

The motorist was travelling faster than any other person to be caught speeding in the country, according to prosecutors.

In Switzerland, speeding fines are calculated using a formula that takes into consideration on the income of the motorist and the severity of the speed.

The man is now facing the highest possible penalty of 300 days of fines at £2,166 a day – a total of £650,000. “We have no record of anyone being caught travelling faster in the country,” said a police spokesman.

He escaped being zapped by numerous radars en-route simply because he was going too fast and they were incapable of clocking speeds beyond 200kph (125mph). It was a new generation of radar machines that finally caught him travelling at close to 300kph.
However, a new generation of radar machines finally clocked him travelling at close to 186mph on the A12 highway between Bern and Lausanne on Friday.

Giving police a watertight explanation as to why he was travelling so fast, he said: “I think the speedo on the car, which is new, is faulty.”

The police arrested the man, who has not been named, shortly afterward and released him after questioning. Benoît Dumas, a police officer in the region where the six-litre Mercedes SLS was stopped, said: “He needed over half a kilometre of road to come to a halt.”
It’s not the first time someone has had to pay such a hefty fine in Europe for speeding. And even lower speeds can generate big fines.

In January, a Swiss court slapped a $290,000 speeding ticket on a millionaire Ferrari driver who drove 60 mph (nearly twice the 30 mph limit) through a small village.
The head of Finnish communications giant Nokia was ordered to may a $103,000 fine for his speeding ticket in 2002. Officers pulled over Anssi Vanjoki on his cherry red Harley Davidson in Helsinki after he was clocked driving 47 mph in a 31-mph zone.
In Finland, traffic fines are also proportionate to an offender’s crime and income level. [via Daily Telegraph (UK) and MSNBC] Technology blogs Technology Blogs Technology Blogs Technology blogs

Renaissance theme name card for Abby Technology Business Card for Apple iPhone, Mobile Phone Repair and Unlocking

This is the proto type name card design for Abby Mobile Phone Repair and Unlocking.  I selected the back ground which was printed on a dot matrix printer (the old computer lab print out size). Then printed paper was scrunched up to create the 3D effect on the surface and texture.

Hope this design will set my name from the regular "me too" design in mobile phone repair (yes, too many semi-pro in this industry and few extremely dodgy fellow in Auckland Central area).

This is not your typical Mini Me: Mini XXL Stretch Limo (tech, news, report, road, car, limo, "David Lim"

MINI is taking the craze for personalisation to extreme lengths with the launch of a six metre long MINI Cooper S limo called the MINI XXL which will make its world premiere in Athens.

The six wheel, four door, six seater stretch MINI Cooper S features the John Cooper Works Tuning Kit and was built by a specialist coach builder in Los Angeles. Fully loaded with all of the toys you would expect to find in a limousine, the MINI XXL comes equipped with a retractable flat screen TV, a DVD player, CD and radio, air conditioning, sunroof, full black leather and a telephone in the rear so that passengers can communicate with the driver. However, the highlight of the MINI XXL is the whirlpool integrated into the rear section of the car. The whirlpool seats two people and is easy to operate. Its detachable roof means that it can be covered when not in use and emptying it is a simple matter of pulling the plug to release the water.

To accommodate the extra body length of the MINI XXL, the car is supported by a third rear axle that has two additional wheels.

Following its stay in Athens the MINI XXL will commence a tour around Europe and parts of Asia where it is set to be the star attraction at various events. End of Mini XXL Stretch Limo review.

The Story about A Dollar (that US Dollar). "Abby Technology", Auckland

Pull a buck from your wallet now and prepare to be amazed.  http://tiny.cc/usdollar

We’re serious. Did you know a dollar bill has hidden pictures, flecks of color, and mysterious symbols? And that’s just the beginning. What do all those seemingly random letters and Latin phrases mean, anyway?

The Basics: How much is a dollar worth?
The question seems simple, but the answer is quite complex. Since 1973, the dollar bill has had no value tied to it. You cannot trade in a dollar to the government for gold, silver, or any other commodity. The value of the nation's currency is related to the decree by the government that a dollar is legal tender for all debts. This means if someone attempts to pay a debt using dollars, the person being paid must accept the money or the law no longer recognizes the debt. This is important enough that the phrase is printed on every bill the government creates.

It is also vital for the nation's citizens to agree that the bills have value. If the members of a society decided that they did not believe in the currency, it would quickly be worth no more than the paper it is printed on. For the record, each bill costs the government 6.4 cents to print.

What kind of paper are the bills made from?

Bills are made from a blend of linen and cotton, which is why they don't fall apart in the wash the way paper does. If you look closely, you can see red and blue silk fibers woven throughout the bill. The threads are thought to be an anti-counterfeit measure.

Hint: Look in the white spaces on the face of the bill for little bits of the colored thread. They look like lint but you can't scratch them off!

On the face of a dollar, what does the letter inside the circular seal mean?
The black seal with the big letter in the middle signifies the Federal Reserve bank that placed the order for the bill. A = Boston, B = New York City, C = Philadelphia, D = Cleveland, E = Richmond, Va., F = Atlanta, G = Chicago, H = St. Louis, I = Minneapolis, J = Kansas City, K = Dallas.

The letter also corresponds to the black number that is repeated four times on the face of the bill. For example, if you have a bill from Dallas with the letter K, then the number on the bill will be 11 because K is the eleventh letter in the alphabet.

Can you find any tiny owls or spiders hidden on the front of the bill?
Many people believe they can see a tiny owl (some say it is a spider) next to the large "1" on the upper right of the bill. If you look at the shield shape that surrounds that "1," the tiny owl rests on the top left corner.

More than likely, the markings are nothing, just a point where the webbed design of the border varies. That won't stop some people from associating the peculiar detail with Masonic symbols, or with more practical things, like anti-counterfeit measures.

The Great Seal of the United States

The green back of the dollar bill features the two sides of The Great Seal of the United States. The founding fathers approved its design in 1782. Ben Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson all had a hand in devising it. The seal provides great insight into the values of the newborn nation and, like the Constitution, provides a direct link to its formative days.

What does Annuit Coeptis mean?

The first of three Latin phrases on the back of the bill is translated as "God has favored our undertakings." Many founders, Franklin and George Washington among them, believed that God's will was behind the successful creation of the United States.

Beneath the pyramid, what does Novus Ordo Seclorum mean?

These Latin words mean "New order of the ages." Charles Thomson, a statesman involved in the design of The Great Seal of the United States, proposed the phrase to signify the beginning of what he called "the new American Era," which he said began in 1776 with the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Why is MDCCLXXVI on the bottom of the pyramid?

The letters are Roman numerals for 1776. M is 1,000, D is 500, CC is 200, L is 50, XX is 20, VI is 6. Add the numerals on the pyramid together and you get the year 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was signed, and when the Novus Ordo Seclorum began.

Why is there an unfinished pyramid with a glowing eye?

Thomson explained the sturdy pyramid as a symbol of "strength and duration". He did not explain its unfinished state, but many believe it signified that our nation remained unfinished. The pyramid also stops at 13 steps, the number of the original colonies.

The "Eye of Providence" is a visual representation of the words Annuit Coeptis, and reinforces the founders' notion that God looked upon the endeavor of the new nation with favor. Many theorists mistakenly believe the symbolism of the eye is related to the Freemasons (a secret society whose members believed they were under the careful scrutiny of God), but the symbolism of the glowing eye is far older than any Freemason thinking. Scholars have traced versions of the symbol as far back as the ancient Egyptians.

What does E Pluribus Unum mean?

"Out of many, one." The 13 disparate colonies came together to form one nation.

Why a bald eagle? The founders wanted an animal native to America to be the new nation's symbol. In its talons the eagle holds arrows and olive branches, signifying war and peace.

Fun activities you and the kids can do with a dollar bill

Track your bills. Go to the website Where's George? and enter the serial number of the bill. If the bill has been in circulation long enough, you might be able to see where your bill has been as it travels from wallets to registers and back. After you enter your bills, check back later to see where they have gone.

Play dollar-bill poker. Each of you takes a dollar bill and examines the green serial numbers as if they were a hand of playing cards. Make your best poker hand and see who wins.

Husband caught cheating on Facebook

http://tiny.cc/fbcheats

Associate Press, Cleveland--August 6, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m.

Dread of the unknown hung in the air as Lynn France typed two words into the search box on Facebook: the name of the woman with whom she believed her husband was having an affair.

Click. And there it was, the stuff of nightmares for any spouse. Wedding photos. At Walt Disney World, no less, featuring her husband literally dressed as Prince Charming. His new wife, a pretty blonde, was a glowing Sleeping Beauty, surrounded by footmen.

“I was numb with shock, to tell you the truth,” says France, an occupational therapist from Westlake, a Cleveland suburb. “There was like an album of 200 pictures on there. Their whole wedding.”

The husband claimed Thursday that his marriage to Lynn France was never valid. He said she knew earlier about the other marriage and was making the Facebook claim as a publicity ploy.

“All of these things are just a trail of cyber breadcrumbs that are easily tracked by good divorce lawyers,” says Parry Aftab, an expert on Internet safety and privacy laws.

France, 41, was not completely blindsided by her Facebook discovery, which happened in January 2009. That fall, she had grown suspicious when her husband began taking frequent business trips, even leaving the day the couple’s newborn son came home from the hospital. Once, she found his passport at home when he was supposed to be in China for business.

In October, before leaving for another trip, her husband left a hotel website up on the couple’s computer screen.

“So I actually went there with a girlfriend, just to see for myself for sure,” France says. “He was there with this girlfriend. I said, ‘Hey, I’m his wife. We’ve got a baby.’”

The woman told France that she was engaged to France’s husband.

“Sure enough, they were registered for a wedding at Target,” France says.

A girlfriend recommended checking the woman’s Facebook page, which was then open to the public, France says, but has since become private. There, France found evidence of an unfolding relationship that she still couldn’t wrap her head around. Overwhelmed with two young children, she confronted her husband. She says he told her he wouldn’t actually go through with the wedding.

It wasn’t until she saw the wedding photos that she finally began divorce proceedings.

“People who engage in these sorts of behaviors now have the option of trying to keep things private or turning it into a spectacle and becoming their own reality show,” says lawyer Andrew Zashin, a child-custody expert who is representing Lynn France.

Lynn’s husband, John France, does not deny that he has remarried. Rather, he simply is insisting that he was never married to Lynn in the first place.

“I don’t think I was cheating,” France said in an interview aired Thursday on NBC’s “Today” show. “If you have a marriage that’s not right from the beginning, it’s not right at the end.”

France said Lynn France’s claim of finding out about the second wedding on Facebook was “absurd” and said she knew long before. He claimed she was “losing the court battle” for custody of their two sons and was using the Facebook story for attention.

His attorney, Gary Williams, issued a statement Tuesday saying his client is asking a family-law court to declare that his marriage to Lynn was “void since its inception.”

“While it appears that John and Lynn France were both under the impression, once upon a time, that they were married, the fact of the matter is that their marriage was never legally proper,” Williams wrote, “and, therefore, it does not actually exist.”

Lynn and John France were married in July 2005 in a seaside wedding on Italy’s Amalfi Coast, having organized the event through Regency San Marino, which coordinates weddings for couples looking to get hitched in Italy. On the company’s website, Lynn is still the first radiant bride whose portrait appears in a gauzy veil, the brilliant blue sea behind her.

If that wedding was a fraud, it was news to Lynn.

“If that were true, then he’s lied to the IRS,” Zashin says. “He’s lied to insurance companies. Banks.”

In June 2009, against the advice of her attorneys, Lynn France dropped divorce proceedings when her husband came home and persuaded her to reconcile.

“I just wanted to believe the good when he came to me and said, ‘Let’s reconcile, I love you,’” she says. “You want to give somebody a second chance.”

But three months ago, Lynn says she was cleaning the sink when her husband took the couple’s 2-year-old son out of her arms and said he was going to give him some milk. Minutes later, she heard the car running.

“He threw them in, no car seats, no nothing, and took off,” she says.

She hasn’t seen her sons since. John France had taken them to Tampa, Fla., where he currently lives with his new wife and, according to his attorney, is seeking custody of their children.

Lynn France called 911, but as in most parental custody disputes, little could be done. She is in contact with the Center for Missing and Exploited Children and has a team of attorneys preparing for a court fight. Authorities have told her not to attempt to take back the children forcibly.

Strange News: Pea plant grows inside man's lung (Auckland, "David Lim")

http://tiny.cc/pealung

A Massachusetts man who was rushed to hospital with a collapsed lung came home with an unusual diagnosis: a pea plant was growing in his lung.

Ron Sveden had been battling emphysema for months when his condition deteriorated.

He was steeling himself for a cancer diagnosis when X-rays revealed the growth in his lung.

Doctors believe that Mr Sveden ate the pea at some point, but it "went down the wrong way" and sprouted.

"One of the first meals I had in the hospital after the surgery had peas for the vegetable. I laughed to myself and ate them," Mr Sveden told a local Boston TV reporter.

Mr Sveden said the plant was about half an inch (1.25cm) in size.

"Whether this would have gone full-term and I'd be working for the Jolly Green Giant, I don't know. I think the thing that finally dawned on me is that it wasn't the cancer," Mr Sveden said.

He is currently recovering at home with his wife Nancy, who joked that God must have a sense of humour.
