Believe it or not, two high level Facebook employees by the names Matthew Papakipos and Joe Hewitt are rumoured to be working on developing a smartphone for Social network giant. Former lead project manager of the Android OS, Eric Tseng is also said to be in the loop after leaving Google in May and signing on with Facebook. According to TechCrunch.com the project is such a secret, that most, if not all Facebook staff are unaware of it. Correction, the project they are working on is not actually a phone, but the software used to power it, alongside a third party who will be building the hardware. The smartphone in question is expected to allow deep integration with Facebook contacts. It also appears that Facebook will be making use of Google’s open-source Android operating system to do its damage, which will surely anger a lot of people off at Google.
The question is why would Facebook be working on a smartphone? Apparently, Facebook has been concerned that Apple and Google are turning into some kind of threat as competitors, there is a rather deep Facebook integration in the Android platform, and there is an iPhone app which allows for contact merging. Both Hewitt and Papakipos have extensive knowledge and experience with operating system experience. Papakipos was leading the Google Chrome OS project until June, when he quit and went to Facebook. As for Hewitt, he helped create the Firefox browser and created all of Facebook’s iPhone web apps. When, where and how much is still unknown, but TechCrunch is betting the Facebook phone will be a lower end model (under $50.00), something very affordable that they can get into as many hands as possible, in other words, not much more than just a fully integrated Facebook device. On the other side of the fence is Engadget, they expect a higher end product, if Facebook is truly concerned about the major players, it would not be targeting a lower end product. All I can say is that Facebook is on top of its game for what it is, a social networking space. They may have the funds and the talent to run with this, but just remember who their completion is, Apple, Google, Nokia, RIM, Microsoft. I just cant see them beating those kind of odds. What do you think it will be called, perhaps the Facepalm?
Update:
Facebook has denied making a phone of its own. It agreed that it was working on deeper integration of the social network with phones, but through its traditional approach of talking to other companies and not with its own devices. Things are starting to get juicy…Mashable says “no Facebook phone”, while TechCrunch is still adamant that there will be a Facebook phone in the near future. I going with TechCrunch on this one, remember last year when Google said they weren’t working on their own brand of a smartphone? What about two years back when Microsoft adamantly denied it wasn’t working on a Zune phone?

World’s Slimmest Waterproof Phone – Fujitsu F705i, This cellphone from Fujitsu claimed as the world’s slimmest waterproof cellphone that can resist submersion in 1 meter of water for about 30 minutes. Here’s the specification of this cellphone. http://tiny.cc/2fujitsu
The Fujitsu F705i tries to proves beyond a doubt that “waterproof” and “slim” is a good combination. It is the latest in its “FOMA i series” of waterproof phones headed to NTT DoCoMo conforming to IPX5 and IPX7 waterproof standards and measures a scrawny 13.7 mm. Waterproof up to 30 minutes at 1 meter depth, this phone features a 1.3-megapixel camera, Super Clear Voice and Super Clear Mic for in-call adjustment of volume to surrounding sounds, a 2.7-inch QVGA LCD screen, and Quick Zoom for increased visual accessibility. This cell phone also has another notable feature, which is a buzzer that can be set off in case of an emergency alerting people in the proximity.
The Fujitsu F705i will be available in three colors of snow white, dark blue, and light pink, although my Japanese doesn’t permit me enough to say when.

We’ve come to take Nokia for granted in the low end or the business class but it seems it has lost the knack for killer phones, run out of royal blood. It’s up to the Nseries to fix it all up. The Nokia N8 may just turn out to be the right cure. With that kind of hardware, it’s a smartphone you’d be mad to ignore. For a change we are not talking netbook-grade processing power or loads of RAM. Nokia have instead given their flagship an industry-leading camera and stuff like HDMI port and USB-On-the-Go. <http://tiny.cc/NokiaN8>
The Finnish engineers often like to make a point about Symbian being the most resource-effective OS. We’ve seen it run reasonably fast indeed on even slower CPUs. This time though it’s Symbian ^3, so we’ll have to see it again to believe it.
Key features
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support Penta-band 3G with 10.2 Mbps HSDPA and 2 Mbps HSUPA support Sleek anodized aluminum unibody 3.5" 16M-color AMOLED capacitive touchscreen of 640 x 360 pixel resolution 12 megapixel autofocus camera with xenon flash and 720p@25fps video recording Camera features: large 1/1.83” camera sensor, mechanical shutter, ND filter, geo-tagging, face detection Symbian^3 OS 680 MHz ARM 11 CPU and 256 MB RAM Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n microHDMI port for 720p TV-out functionality GPS receiver with A-GPS support and free lifetime voice-guided navigation Digital compass 16GB on-board storage, expandable through the microSD card slot Active noise cancellation with a dedicated mic
DivX and XviD video support Built-in accelerometer and proximity sensor Standard 3.5 mm audio jack Stereo FM Radio with RDS, FM transmitter microUSB port with USB On-the-go support Flash and Java support for the web browser Stereo Bluetooth 3.0 Nice audio reproduction quality Smart and voice dialing Scratch resistant Gorilla glass display Main disadvantages Symbian^3 is still behind Android and iOS usability standards No video light Camera interface is decidedly outdated Relatively limited 3rd party software availability No office document editing (without a paid upgrade) Video player has some issues Battery life is not on par with best in the business Battery is not user-replaceable
There’s certainly a lot of pressure on the Nokia N8. People are probably expecting more from it than the very guys who designed it. But the N8 was never meant to compete with the iPhone 4 or the Galaxy S. At least, that’s what Nokia will gladly have you believe. You see, with the Nokia N8 it’s not about who the competition is. Not about the business benefits of a smartphone, not about the available apps. It’s about the best camera in the business. Now, we’ll have to see about that. Again.
The N8 already managed to put a dedicated digicam to shame in our recent blind test. But it will take more than that to get the thumbs up at the end of a full review. The camera is certainly impressive but it’s the overall balance and bang-for-buck that count most in our books here so the N8 better have more aces up its sleeve. We pop the box open after the break.

This is the proto type name card design for Abby Mobile Phone Repair and Unlocking. I selected the back ground which was printed on a dot matrix printer (the old computer lab print out size). Then printed paper was scrunched up to create the 3D effect on the surface and texture.
Hope this design will set my name from the regular "me too" design in mobile phone repair (yes, too many semi-pro in this industry and few extremely dodgy fellow in Auckland Central area).
Completed the final version of Abby Technology business card design. It is meant for growing our business in Apple iPhone Repair, unlock, jailbreak, network unlock, lcd replacement and software update in Auckland, New Zealand.
The imaged was not froma photography but hand drawn by an artist (yes, a university student). The name card show the image of a broken Apple iPhone 4 with two plaster sticking on it.
It does not have any logo or copyright trademark belongs to Apple. We wil be working on a version related to RIM BlackBerry repair and unlocking.
This is the vital part of mobile phone repair, Apple iPhone 4 Unlock; which many customers had overlooked it. http://tiny.cc/abbyterms
With the terms and condition in place for repairing mobile phone, unlocking Blackberry; heaps of confusion or miscommunication will be avoided.
Many owner assumes that water damage phone can be repair and work perfectly. In fact, this might be true but not most of the time. A water damaged phone had been exposed to and soaked up by liquid or chemicals the moment the phone gets wet or soaked. The internal components capacity will be corroded and at times there are signs of miniature explosion took place in the phone when the phone was wet.
A water damaged phone is like a human that has cancer; you never know how long it will last and when the next wave of attack kills the patient.
There is no warranty on repaired water damaged phone.
