Issues with Apple iPhone 4 battery problems. 100 percent to 3 in five hours! (tech, news, iOS, report, Auckland)

Now when it comes to the Apple iPhone 4, we must say it seems like one problem after another, this time round it is the battery life and how much it drains so quick.


As mentioned before about the latest software being installed playing havoc with a few things, like not being able to use the iPhone 4 with a Bose stereo docking station and the pain in the backside not being able to connect to the car via Bluetooth, this time round lets talk about the battery life.


Woke up at 6am and only had 4 percent battery life so charged it via my laptop whilst working (Macbook Air), once it got to 100 percent I disconnected and five hours later it was on 3 percent, so glad human life is not as draining as that or I would be born to die within weeks.


Now I know you will all comment saying you have this running in the background or you have wifi on etc, well let me explain what was running. WiFi is always on for work use, I go onto our Facebook wall say every hour just to check things but always logout in between use and of course when you double click the menu button I delete the icons as to make sure it is not running in the back ground.  (Source: TechLand online magazine)

Do you know where are iPhone firmware files stored on my computer?

Apple doesn't go out of it's way to tell you where iTunes stores the firmware files it downloads before it updates your iPhone. Should you ever need to access these files, it helps to know where to find them.


Firmware files have an .ipsw extension and can be found at the following locations:


On Windows:
Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates


On Mac:
~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates

Abby Technology Tips: How to Sync Google Calendar with iPhone 3GS? (Power User Tips & Tricks, Auckland)

Our engineers and admin managers at Abby Technology Limited (3071547) use Gmail and Google Calendar extensively. iPhone’s native Calendar is nice but Google Calendar lets us access our events from our computers as well. Plus, I have tons of contacts already filled out in my Gmail that would be nice to have them in my iPhone.

With Google Calendar, you can also subscribe to other Calendar (CalDAV) compatible services like Remember the Milk, Anyvite, etc.

How to Sync Google Calendar with iPhone?

With this little tip, you can integrate Google Calendar right into your iPhone Calendar using Google Sync. I am going to assume you have upgraded to OS 3.0 and get to 2.2 later.

iPhone OS Version 3.0

1. Open Settings in iPhone
2. Open Mail, Contacts, Calendars
3. Tap on Add Account

5. In the Email field, enter your full Gmail address
6. You can leave the Domain field empty
7. In Username, enter your full email address
8. In Password, enter your Google password

10. Press Next
11. Select the Google Services you want to Sync – only Calendar & Contacts supported at the moment
12. Choose ‘Keep on my iPhone‘ to keep your existing contacts and events in your iPhone.
13. And you are done!

Gotchas

• Google Calendar and Contacts will automatically sync if you have Push (Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Fetch New Data) enabled. Push settings can also drain your battery faster so play with it and see how your battery holds up with various intervals.
• You can choose which of your Google Calendars to Sync by going to http://m.google.com/sync in Safari
• You can only create 1 Exchange ActiveSync account. So if you already use one for work you are out of luck. Thanks Apple!

• With iPhone OS 2.2, you won’t see the screen where you can chose to Keep your existing Contacts in iPhone. You have to heed the warning that you will lose your iPhone data and hit Sync twice.

Dropbox BlackBerry Now Available for All, Android and iOS Apps Get Updates

BlackBerry/Android/iOS: BlackBerry addicts, your days of emailing yourself files are nearly numbered. File syncing service Dropbox has released its previously closed beta BlackBerry app into the open, while also giving Android and iOS users some nice new features. http://tiny.cc/DropBox


DropBox for BlackBerry offers the same kind of file access, sharing, and even media streaming that the service offers to desktop and other smartphone users. The easiest way to grab the app is to point your BlackBerry to dropbox.com/blackberry.

Android users who update their app (which recently hit the Market) will notice that Dropbox has added itself to the "Share" menu, so you can send Dropbox a file from nearly any app that lets you send anywhere. There's also a new Shortcut option for the home screen to create direct links to Dropbox folders. iOS users are getting background uploading through iOS 4 multi-tasking, along with high-resolution and HD video support and automatic offline caching.


Finally, Dropbox also created a web list of Apps that work great with the service—in other words, apps that have some kind of connection to Dropbox, whether for file grabbing or storing. It's a good place to check and see if your favorite mobile apps could become a bit more convenient.

Researching and trying to make a decision on what new phone to buy can be an exhausting task. How good is the network it’s offered on? What options for apps are there? How long is the battery life? Will it get me laid? Wait what? Let’s face it, a phone is as much a status symbol as the car your drive. The same sub conscious sexual reason we may buy a nice car can be equated to the same reason we may buy a phone we don’t really need. But
