World Water Day Optical Illusion

Whooooah, I have an incredible news to share with you today! Have you by any accident heard of the almighty web search giant, Yahoo? Off course you have!

Well, as it may happen, yesterday Yahoo has featured, and recommended Mighty Optical Illusions RSS Feed to all of it’s users across the globe! Yes, you read it right. Our little’o blog was mentioned as a daily recommendation inside My

Yahoo start page of every Yahoo user in the world. If you’re quick, you may still catch it. My Yahoo is a service simmilar to Google homepage (iGoogle), where you can add all kinds of stuff, including widgets, RSS feeds, games etc. Millions of web surfers use it as their surfing starting point. You can imagine how all this positively influenced our visitor count. If you are interested, you can read more about this here. Just let me know when you’re finished, so we can proceed with our latest illusion…

Today’s post is dedicated to the “World Water Day“. Even though this event is celebrated on March, 22nd of each year, I still believe we aren’t too late to mention it. Apparently, Tribuna de Minas used a well known optical illusion floating letters pattern, and created what seems a floating water effect inside of it’s World Water Day poster. I love optical illusion patterns inside adverts! There are many more from where this came from, so prepare to be bombed with them in the following days. When you open the below image in a new window (full size), you will experience the effect in its full capacity. Don’t be fooled. The image you see is static – it’s your eyes and brain that make it flow!

The story of a pencil (December 5th, 2010, Auckland, New Zealand)

A child was watching hiw grandmother writting a letter. At some point, he asked her:
-Are you writting a story about us? Is it a story about me?
His grandmother stopped writting, smiled and said to her grandson:
-I am writting a story about you. However, what is more important than the word i am using, is the pencil i am writting it with. Someday, when you grow up, i really hope you become like it.
The intrigued boy looked at the pencil but saw nothing special about it.
-It is just like any other pencil i have ever seen, said to his grandmother.
-Well, it all depends on how you see things. The pencil has five qualities, which if you manage to obtain, will make you a person always at peace with the world.
First quality: you are capable of achieving great things, but you must never forget that there is a hand guiding your steps. We call that hand “God”, and He always guides you according to His will.
Second quality: every now and then, i have to stop writing and use a sharpner. That makes the pencil suffer a little, but afterwards, it’s much sharper. So you too, must learn to bear some pains and sorrows, because they will make you a better person.
Third quality: the pencil always allows us to use an eraser to rub out any mistakes we make. You should realise that correcting something you did wrong is not necessarily a bad thing. It’s important for keeping you on the road to justice.
Fourth quality: what really matters in a pencil is not its wooden exterior, but the graphite on the inside. So you should always pay attention to what is happening inside you.
Finally, the pencil’s fifth quality: it always leaves a mark. In the same way, you should know that everything you do in your life, will leave a mark. So try to be conscious of that in your every action.
The above story is an excerpt from Paulo Coelho’s “Like the Flowing River”

Do You Know. . .What Happens to Your Body When you Drink Coke (tech, science, news, report, diet, Auckland)

  1. In The First 10 minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. (100% of your recommended daily intake.) You don’t immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor allowing you to keep it down.
  2. 20 minutes: Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get it’s hands on into fat. (There’s plenty of that at this particular moment)
  3. 40 minutes: Caffeine absorption is complete. Your pupils dialate, your blood pressure rises, as a response your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. The adenosine receptors in your brain are now blocked preventing drowsiness.
  4. 45 minutes: Your body ups your dopamine production stimulating the pleasure centers of your brain. This is physically the same way heroin works, by the way.
  5. 60 minutes: The phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium and zinc in your lower intestine, providing a further boost in metabolism. This is compounded by high doses of sugar and artificial sweeteners also increasing the urinary excretion of calcium.
  6. 60 minutes: The caffeine’s diuretic properties come into play. (It makes you have to pee.) It is now assured that you’ll evacuate the bonded calcium, magnesium and zinc that was headed to your bones as well as sodium, electrolyte and water.
  7. 60 minutes: As the rave inside of you dies down you’ll start to have a sugar crash. You may become irritable and/or sluggish. You’ve also now, literally, pissed away all the water that was in the Coke. But not before infusing it with valuable nutrients your body could have used for things like even having the ability to hydrate your system or build strong bones and teeth.

Largest Object Removed From Human Skull (world medical record, 2010, Auckland, New Zealand)

Posted by Abby Technology Limited, Aucland, New Zealand

In 1998, while he was at a friend's residence in Jacksonville, Florida, an unknown assailant stabbed Michael Hill in the head and left, presuming that his target would lay down and die like a normal human being. Instead, Michael wandered down the street to another friend's house to get help with an 8 inch survival knife still embedded in his grey matter. The odds defying, ball of bronze Michael explained that he "...didn't feel the pain initially and it was only when I was at the hospital that it hit me and I felt like my eyes were bulging out."

Hill's arrival and treatment at the Shands Jacksonville Trauma center was documented and broadcast on the TLC series Trauma: Life in the E.R. http://tiny.cc/large

Despite the large knife penetrating his brain, Hill was conscious and responsive when arrived at the hospital. Four hours after he arrived the knife was removed. Hill survived without even an infection and within seven days was discharged from the hospital, although the knife had caused permanent damage to his memory and paralyzed his left hand. He now has occasional headaches and needs medication to prevent seizures. He's now the proud holder of the Guiness Record for "Largest Object Removed From Human Skull".

Strange News: Pea plant grows inside man's lung (Auckland, "David Lim")

http://tiny.cc/pealung

A Massachusetts man who was rushed to hospital with a collapsed lung came home with an unusual diagnosis: a pea plant was growing in his lung.

Ron Sveden had been battling emphysema for months when his condition deteriorated.

He was steeling himself for a cancer diagnosis when X-rays revealed the growth in his lung.

Doctors believe that Mr Sveden ate the pea at some point, but it "went down the wrong way" and sprouted.

"One of the first meals I had in the hospital after the surgery had peas for the vegetable. I laughed to myself and ate them," Mr Sveden told a local Boston TV reporter.

Mr Sveden said the plant was about half an inch (1.25cm) in size.

"Whether this would have gone full-term and I'd be working for the Jolly Green Giant, I don't know. I think the thing that finally dawned on me is that it wasn't the cancer," Mr Sveden said.

He is currently recovering at home with his wife Nancy, who joked that God must have a sense of humour.
