You Think She’s Perfect? So Do 2,000 Other Guys (real story, people, event, shocking, news)

Young Zhang Mengqian, a university student from China, got more than she bargained for when her “boyfriend-wanted” card caused a stir among her male colleagues. http://tiny.cc/PerfectGirl

On March 8, to celebrate Women’s Day, the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, in Chengdu, gave every girl student a bland piece of paper, and asked each of them to put down their wish and post it on a wishing wall.

Here’s what freshman Zhang Mengqian wrote on her card: “My name is Zhang Mengqian, a grade one student, and I think I am attractive, but strangely I can’t find a boyfriend. However I believe in destiny. If you have the same wish, please come under my dormitory building and shout for my name in between 12:30 to 12:50 on March 11th, and I will observe you secretly up on the building. If you’re my type, I’ll come down to meet you.”Combine that with a ratio of male and female students of 25:1, and yo have a real horn-fest on your hands.
Zhang Mengqian message became so popular that on noon of March 11, over 2,000 male students gathered in front of her dorm building. Not all of them were brave enough to shout out her name, though, but that’s maybe because none of those who did had any luck.
So i hope you learned your lesson Zhang Mengqian, NEVER ask for a boyfrind in a country with over one billion inhabitants. That’s a big “no-no”!

The Golden Buddha Speaker: Most Expensive Speaker in The World (world record, audio, Auckland)

A perfect sound needs a perfect set of speakers as well. And while technology and innovation continues to make its way and brings us the best gadgets and consumer products in life that aims to give us a better and more convenient living to enjoy, art has not been definitely left behind.  http://tiny.cc/BuddhaSpeakers
The concept of coming out with “Art Speakers” have been pretty much prevalent nowadays. Some music lovers look for a speaker that will complement and further enhance the looks of their home or music rooms. Some art speakers come with sculptural design without sacrificing its state of the art technology and a good sound quality as well. You may have seen a number of art speakers, but not artistic enough to convince you to buy one.

And lately, another perfectly designed speaker has become the subject of recent talks and this might finally convince you to buy one. It’s the Golden Buddha Speaker and believed to be the most expensive speaker in the world. Apparently, the Golden Buddha Speaker is a speaker that comes with a 23-karat gold leaf-covered Buddha statue that costs around US $13,250 or about US$ 43,000 for a pair. This Golden Buddha will definitely catch the attention of many music lovers, religious people as well as art lovers out there.
This spiritual speaker, as you may call it, were especially designed for art lovers by a company named Ton. Basically, it has a half body floating Buddha coated into 23-karat gold and floats above its hand-hammered metal base. Adding up to its artistic design is a golden light that comes between the Buddha and its base, thus, enhancing its unique design further.

This is the latest and most awesome design art speaker made by Ton so far. The company’s art speaker range consists of a variety of around 14 loud speakers from organic, to sculptural and each comes in unique and inexplicable designs that will surely catch the attention of not only music lovers, but art lovers as well.
The 23-karat gold Golden Buddha speaker seems to be a cool and fantastic speaker that you will dream of having. But as expected this art speaker will definitely make you spend a relatively large amount of money too. So what do you think, will you be interested to buy the Golden Buddha speakers?

DropBox 1.3 for iPhone, iPad now in App Store (Apple iPhone File Sharing, Auckland, "Abby Technology")

http://tiny.cc/Drop-Box
DropBox for iPhone and iPad has just been updated to version 1.3 and you can get it now from the iTunes App Store. Like Apple’s own MobileMe iDisk, it lets you store files online and sync them locally as well. Unlike iDisk it’s lightning fast, provides versioning (like Time Machine), and does a host of other great stuff as well. New features and fixes in 1.3 include:
  • UI re-design with numerous visual enhancements including retina display support
  • File caching (no need to re-download files you’ve already viewed!)
  • Fullscreen landscape file viewing on iPad
  • Finish uploads and downloads while in the background
  • Create folders
  • Bug fix for viewing CSV and some broken HTML files
The app is free, the service is free up to 2GB and then you can pay for 50GB and 100GB options. If you try out the new version, let us know what you think. Personally, I’m not digging the new UI yet, but I’ll give it some time…  The iPhone App link is located here.

Abby Technology Tips: How to Sync Google Calendar with iPhone 3GS? (Power User Tips & Tricks, Auckland)

Our engineers and admin managers at Abby Technology Limited (3071547) use Gmail and Google Calendar extensively. iPhone’s native Calendar is nice but Google Calendar lets us access our events from our computers as well. Plus, I have tons of contacts already filled out in my Gmail that would be nice to have them in my iPhone.
With Google Calendar, you can also subscribe to other Calendar (CalDAV) compatible services like Remember the Milk, Anyvite, etc.

How to Sync Google Calendar with iPhone?

With this little tip, you can integrate Google Calendar right into your iPhone Calendar using Google Sync. I am going to assume you have upgraded to OS 3.0 and get to 2.2 later.
iPhone OS Version 3.0
  1. Open Settings in iPhone
  2. Open Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  3. Tap on Add Account
  4. Select Microsoft Exchange

  5. In the Email field, enter your full Gmail address
  6. You can leave the Domain field empty
  7. In Username, enter your full email address
  8. In Password, enter your Google password
  9. Hit Next and enter m.google.com in Server field

  10. Press Next
  11. Select the Google Services you want to Sync – only Calendar & Contacts supported at the moment
  12. Choose ‘Keep on my iPhone‘ to keep your existing contacts and events in your iPhone.
  13. And you are done!
Gotchas
  • Google Calendar and Contacts will automatically sync if you have Push (Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Fetch New Data) enabled. Push settings can also drain your battery faster so play with it and see how your battery holds up with various intervals.
  • You can choose which of your Google Calendars to Sync by going to http://m.google.com/sync in Safari
  • You can only create 1 Exchange ActiveSync account. So if you already use one for work you are out of luck. Thanks Apple!
  • After the Sync is done, you chose to see All Calendars or just specific Calendars in iPhone

  • With iPhone OS 2.2, you won’t see the screen where you can chose to Keep your existing Contacts in iPhone. You have to heed the warning that you will lose your iPhone data and hit Sync twice.
Hope you were able to set up your Google Calendar and Contacts in your iPhone with these instructions. Just give us a yell or contact us via our site http://go.to/abby should you need help or more information!  Cheers!

How to sell online your old gadgets and recover your investment cost? (tech, news, guide, info, online, selling, buying, Auckland)

How many gadgets you bought last year (2009) and now thinking of getting rid of them?  Throwing them away is a bit wasteful, donating them to mates does not help to recover your purchase cost.

I have just came across a cool link that tells you the detail on achieving maximum return on your old IT gadgets.  It is rather detail and insightful.  You have to do your research for which site to sell your used items on.  However, please be careful of scammers who will offer you extremely high price and "will pay you in advance" for overseas shipping!  The link is located here.  If you are lazy, click on the picture above to get there!

Just remember not to be greedy and expect to earn huge profit from selling your used items online!

Happy trading! http://go.to/abby

Apple Applies For Patent To Remotely Disable JailBroken iPhone (Auckland, New Zealand)

U.S Copyright Office had exempted jailbreaking iPhone from the Digital Millennium Copyright Act making it legal for users in the US to jailbreak their iPhone.  http://tiny.cc/iphonelock
At that time, we had mentioned that it wouldn’t stop Apple from making it difficult to jailbreak iOS to stay ahead in the cat and mouse with the iPhone hacking community.
Apple had also clarified that unauthorized modification of the iOS violates the warranty of the iOS-based device.
Apple has applied for a patent titled “Systems and Methods for Identifying Unauthorized Users of an Electronic Device”, which will allow it to remotely disable an iPhone, iPador iPod Touch if it detects any unauthorized activity that indicate suspicious activity such as entering a incorrect password a predetermined number of times or within a period of time, hacking, jailbreaking or unlocking the iOS-based device.
Ars Technica reports:
The patent, titled “Systems and Methods for Identifying Unauthorized Users of an Electronic Device,” describes several ways a device could sense who is using an iPhone or iPad. Among the methods considered are voice print analysis, photo analysis, heartbeat analysis (!), hacking attempts, or even “noting particular activities that can indicate suspicious behavior.”
The device could automatically snap pictures of the unauthorized user and record the GPS coordinates of the device, as well as log keystrokes, phone calls, or other activity.
Once an unauthorized user is detected, the device can then automatically disable certain features or send notifications to Twitter or other services.
The patent describes how Apple plans to detect an unauthorized user:
[0060]To detect an unauthorized user, process 610 of FIG. 6b can determine whether particular activities are identified at step 612. As described above, the particular activities can include any activities indicating suspicious behavior such as, for example, entering an incorrect password a predetermined number of times in a row, entering an incorrect password a predetermined number of times within a period of time, hacking the electronic device, jailbreaking the electronic device, unlocking of the electronic device, removing a SIM card from the electronic device, moving the electronic device a predetermined distance from a synced device, or any combination of the above. If a particular activity is identified, the current user can be detected as an unauthorized user at step 614. If, however, a particular activity is not identified, process 610 can end at step 616.
Though the patent seems to indicate that Apple’s intention is to protect iPhone users from their device being accessed by an unauthorized user, the description of unauthorized activityespecially jailbreaking and unlocking has raised eyebrows since the patent doesn’t provide details on whether Apple or the owner of the device will have the ability to remotely disable the device.
It would be useful if the owner has the ability to remotely disable the device from say his/her MobileMe account based on what the owner thinks is unauthorized activity but would be controversial if Apple wants to control this feature.
It is also important to note here that Apple like othercompaniespatents ideas and so this feature might never see the light of day.  Let us know your views in the comments below.

Power Saving Tips

#1 - Always go to the home screen before putting your iPhone in standby mode. If you are running an App and hit the Sleep/Wake button to turn the screen off, the application will still be running in the background and can severely drain your battery.
#2 - Disable 3G on long calls (Ex: business calls, calling your cable company, or calling ATT Customer Service ). Call quality on EDGE is quite good compared to 3G.
#3 - If your apartment / house has a weak 3G signal, definitely turn off 3G until you leave your home. My apartment has a very weak 3G signal. The phone switches networks constantly if I have 3G enabled, which murders my battery. I use EDGE while I'm at home w/ WiFi for data. When I leave my home, I turn on 3G.
#4 - Enable WiFi in your apartment / house when WiFi is available. Use WiFi instead of 3G or EDGE for web browsing. WiFi is (with a strong signal) faster than 3G or EDGE. WiFi also uses significantly less battery power than any cellular network.
#5 - If you only use WiFi hotspots, keep WiFi disabled. Enable WiFi when you enter a hotspot.
#6 - If you don't need GPS, disable Location Services. When Location Services is enabled, your GPS antenna is activated. The GPS antenna will continue to drain battery life, even if you aren't using an application that needs Location Services.
#7 - Disable Push notifications, unless needed. It is estimated that your battery life will decrease by 20% (about an hour) with Push enabled. Increasing your fetch interval to an hour or above will also increase battery life.
#8 - Disable Bluetooth if you have no Bluetooth devices (duh). If you're like me and use Bluetooth in your car, I would just leave Bluetooth ON for convenience so you don't have to enable Bluetooth every time you go for a drive. More trouble than it's worth.
#9 - Using App Store programs may HEAVILY decrease battery life. Games (especially 3D) are notorious for killing your battery. Don't be surprised to get 2 - 3 hour usage statistics while gaming.
#10 - Enable Auto Brightness
#11 - If you have no service at all, use Airplane mode. With no service, your phone will constantly look for a signal, which kills your battery very quickly. Airplane Mode will let you use your phone, but you won't be able to dial or receive calls.
#12 - Make sure Auto-Lock is set @ 1 minute.
#13 - If you mainly use your phone for talking / texting / email / gaming, using EDGE will offer a similar experience, but your battery life will increase significantly.
